Burnley boss Eddie Howe is keen to reinvest money from the sale of Jay Rodriguez but accepts much of it will help balance the books.
Rodriguez sealed his switch to Premier League Southampton for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £6million.
The 22-year-old striker was a key part of Burnley's team last season, scoring 21 goals for the Clarets.
Howe is anxious to supplement his forward options but, with a £4million shortfall in the accounts in the last financial year, he does not expect to receive all the money.
That means the 34-year-old manager has a responsibility to develop the existing players at the club and spend what money he is given in a prudent manner.

Spend wisely

"It won't be millions and millions, but it will be a percentage and we will have to spend it wisely," Howe told the Lancashire Telegraph.
"Some will have to go back into the accounts to make sure the club is strong for years to come.
"With Danny Ings, Charlie Austin and Martin Paterson we have three very good centre forwards left at the club.
"Hopefully all three lads will report back fit and ready to go for the new season and hopefully we can add one more."
