Crewe boss Steve Davis will move for other left-backs after Callum Kennedy opted to join Scunthorpe instead of a move to Gresty Road.
Davis had spoken with the out-of-contract Swindon man in an attempt to convince him to move to the newly-promoted League One club, but the 23-year-old chose the Iron instead.
"We have others to go for and that is what can happen with transfers. They can change their mind at the last minute and you never know until it is done," Davis told the club's official website.
"We spoke to one with potential and there are others on our list with more experience than him, so we just move on. There are plenty of left-backs around but it is about getting the right one in.
"We want that quality one in that will give us that balance on the left and it has to be the right fit to fill that void."
