Former manager Harry Redknapp thinks Luka Modric is 'irreplaceable' for Tottenham amid ongoing reports the Croatian is this summer set to move to Real Madrid or Chelsea.
Twelve months ago, European champions Chelsea wanted to sign the 26-year-old, while Primera Liga winners Real have also long been linked with the playmaker.
Modric last summer requested a transfer, which Tottenham rejected, but the 2008 signing from Dinamo Zagreb is again rumoured to be close to asking to leave White Hart Lane.
Spurs, who are understood to be on the brink of appointing ex-Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas, are still thought to be refusing to sell, especially to a Premier League rival, for anything less than £50million.

Massive money

And despite his sacking earlier in June by Tottenham, Redknapp is fully aware of Modric's value to Tottenham, as he told Sky Sports News when asked if Modric had kicked his last ball for the club: "I don't know. I wouldn't be sure about that.
"It would be (a huge loss). He is irreplaceable. But if they get massive money, they can go and get three or four players and improve the team in other areas."
Tottenham were on Wednesday boosted by Gareth Bale's decision to sign a new contract which ties him to the club until 2016.
And Redknapp, who oversaw the Welshman's development at White Hart Lane, said: "He is a great player. Not only is he a great player, he is a top-class boy.
Different route
"He will go on and become one of the great players in world football. He is already, in my opinion. But he will be the best left-sided player, for sure."
Redknapp has also again underlined his disappointment at being fired by Tottenham, despite having led the club to a second top-four Premier League finish in three seasons.
"I would obviously love to have stayed," Redknapp told Sky Sports News. "Things were going well. There was no hint of me leaving, to be fair.
"But it is up to the chairman and the owner. It is their club, if they feel they want to go down a different route.
"Maybe they want to get someone in where they can get more people involved in who they sign and who they do not sign, that is up to them. It is their club."
