Gillespie: High hopes for Cod Army
Sky Bet
Fleetwood's latest signing Steven Gillespie believes the League Two newcomers should be targeting back-to-back promotions.
The 27-year-old striker joined Micky Mellon's side from Colchester on Monday for an undisclosed fee and is set to spearhead the Cod Army's attack alongside Jon Parkin in the forthcoming campaign.
"I don't think Fleetwood have got anything to be afraid of," he told BBC Radio Lancashire. "The likes of Crawley and Stevenage have gone up and then up again.
"I don't see why we can't because the club are making some good signings. The lads who are already here have done magnificently well to win the Conference like they did. There are some good players here."
Gillespie scored 12 times for Colchester in League One last term and admits a move was not on his agenda.
"I was fully planning on playing for Colchester United next season," he added. "I wasn't even thinking of a move. It came a little out of the blue. As soon as I spoke to the manager he told me the ambition of the club and where they want to go. It was a no-brainer really."
