Hannover have created room in their squad for new signings by selling Moritz Stoppelkamp to ambitious second division side 1860 Munich.
Stoppelkamp joined Hannover from Rot Weiss Oberhausen in 2010 and he made 44 Bundesliga appearances for the club, in addition to featuring in the Europa League last season.
He was linked with a loan move to Augsburg during the January transfer window, but has now secured a permanent exit away from Hannover.
The 25-year-old had requested a transfer following 1860 Munich's approach and he has been allowed to leave for an undisclosed fee.
"We accepted the player's wishes by releasing him early," said Hannover's director of sport Jorg Schmadtke.
"We thank Moritz Stoppelkamp for his performances for Hannover and wish him all the best at his new club."
