Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have confirmed they are ready to hold contract talks with defender Diego Contento.
Contento, 22, is a product of the club's youth academy, and only made his official first-team debut back in February 2010.
The Bavarian-born full-back was not a regular under head coach Jupp Heynckes at the Allianz Arena last season.
However, the club's director of football Christian Nerlinger insists the youngster is a player for the future and is keen for him to pen a new long-term deal.
"Contento is under contract with our club," Nerlinger told German newspaper BILD. "He has shown he can do a good job for Bayern because he has also played in Europe.
"We know what he can do and we are determined to make sure he signs a new contract.
"We are currently in talks with the player's representatives and those talks are progressing very well."
Contento, who played in Bayern's UEFA Champions League final defeat to Chelsea, is contracted to the club until June 2013.
