Eddie Newton is still waiting to hear whether he will be involved with Chelsea's coaching set-up next season, but expects opportunities to arise if not.
Ex-Blues midfielder Newton returned to Stamford Bridge as Roberto Di Matteo's right-hand man when his former team-mate was handed the managerial reins on an interim basis.
The pair were charged with the task of steering Chelsea through to the end of a season which was in danger of collapse following Andre Villas-Boas' ill-fated stint in the hot-seat.
Di Matteo and Newton could not have dreamt that things would go so well.
They guided the Blues to FA Cup final glory at Wembley before claiming the prize most coveted by owner Roman Abramovich, the UEFA Champions League.
Newton hopes Di Matteo is now being considered for the manager role on a permanent basis, but says the pair have been offered no indication as to whether their services will be required in 2012/13.
"Everyone knows that Chelsea is a football club close to my heart but, at the end of the day, the owner has to make his own decisions and whether he goes with Robbie and myself is another matter," he toldSky Sports News HD.
"If he goes in a different direction, that's up to him. It was a great opportunity, which we fully took and enjoyed immensely. It was a lot of hard work but it was fully enjoyable. What happens I don't know. What will be, will be."

Remit

He added: "There were no guarantees and I never changed my mind no matter what the situation was - getting to the FA Cup final and winning it, getting to the Champions League final and winning it. At no time did it change.
"My remit was to come in and help the side until the end of the season and that was it. The club and me haven't changed in our thoughts. It was pleasure to come in and do that job and that's it. There is no other issue."
Whether Di Matteo and Newton are back in the Stamford Bridge dugout next season remains to be seen, but the pair are confident that offers will arrive should they be overlooked by the Blues.
Newton said: "This is what you have to do within any job. If you are given an opportunity, you have to maximise it to the fullest potential. I feel Robbie and myself have done that.
"What will be, will be but we have got ourselves in a good light and hopefully something will come from it."
